In the series "Stockholmiana" we visit places and tell unique stories from Stockholm's past. In this episode: The Plutonium Factory. In 1994 Washington Post writes that Sweden has not fully abandoned their plans to get nuclear weapons. Many Swedes are astound - what do they imply? In 1962 the heavy water reactor in Ågesta opened up close to Farsta, southern suburbs of Stockholm. The purpose was to provide district heating, but also to produce the raw material for Swedish nuclear weapons. Despite being closed in 1972, the reactor was still there in 1994. It was kept clean, serviced and there's a squad guarding it 24h per day. Why? #ågesta #reactor #nuke #swedish #nuclear #bomb #weapon
