The SAAB 17 was the first all-metal aircraft developed in Sweden. It was also to be the first aircraft built by SAAB, who had only been formed on the 2nd of April 1937. After a small issue around the wings (they liked to break in fast dives), the aircraft entered service in 1941-42.
Originally concieved as a reconnaissance aircraft, it was also expanded to fill the role of a light bomber. The aircraft came as a landplane or a seaplane, and could even have its landing gear replaced with skis for snowy weather (Because Sweden). Though it didn't really see much action, it still had a distinguished career, both with Sweden and later the Ethiopian Air Force.
