This is my 1st overseas trip since the 2020 Covid-19 incident, which has become super interesting. We traveled by ETS train from KL to Padang Besar, and decided to take another train from Padang Besar to Hat Yai instead of taking a van. For your information, a van service is available at the train station and will cost you approximately RM 30 ONLY (as I have been told). They will fetch you to the Malaysia-Thailand border and you may proceed to queue up: 1. first at Malaysia Immigration Office to get your passport chopped; then you will need to drag your luggage and walk around 200 - 300m (I just estimate) to Thailand Immigration Office to check-in. Then the van will bring you to Hat Yai and the journey is around 1 hour plus-minus. Sound simple right? Hahahahaha nope. Sometimes, there will be a super long queue at both immigration offices that might require you to line up for more than 3 hours to complete both sites, especially at noon time. How do I know this? I have friends and family who told me, and I also crossed once. That's why taking the train sounded more interesting and adventurous to me but I did not foresee that I will be so lucky to be delayed. HAHAHAHAHAHA. Not everything can be so well planned and perfect, but I truly believe there are blessings in disguise in this delay (if you watch my video, you will understand what I mean). For those who wish to travel by train from KL to Padang Besar, the following is information and links for you: 1. Choose an ETS train and you may proceed to the instruction that has been shared in the video. NOTES: - Choose the location you wish to depart from. - Your end destination SHOULD ONLY BE "Padang Besar". Because this is the train that will link you to Hat Yai train. From there you may decide whether you wish to take a train or van to reach Hat Yai. Don't worry, there are vendors trying their best to pursue you to take their van services. - The ticket counter that sells Hat Yai train tickets will only open at 2 slots: 1) 9 - 10 AM; 2) 3 - 5.35 PM Malaysia time. (Remember: Thailand time is ONE hour later than Malaysia time. Don't get confused). - train to Hat Yai will depart (most of the time except if you are lucky as me) by 1) 9.55 AM and reach Hat Yai 10.50AM; or 2) 4.40 PM and reached by 5.35 PM. - AGAIN don't get confused when you see the Hat Yai train ticket you bought because they are stated according to Thailand Time.
