Chris Philp has accused the government's new plan to toughen up the rules around asylum seekers of being a series of "gimmicks".
Asked if the Conservatives will support the plan, the shadow home secretary tells Sunday Morning with Trevor Phillips: "Well, where it makes sense we will, of course, support sensible steps."
He added: "What we are proposing to do is say that we want no illegal immigration whatsoever. Stop the problem at source."
