Stone Age Workshop #5 - Stone Axe In this episode of the Stone Age Workshop series, I make a Stone Age axe (also known as a celt) completely from scratch. I travel to Graig Lwyd in North Wales, one of Britain’s most important stone age axe-making sites, where people have been working stone for over 6,000 years. I flake and grind the axe head on river sandstone. Once finished, I haft the axe onto a wooden handle and put it to the test, using it to gather wood that will be used to rebuild Britains oldest house which dates back 10,000 years to the end of the last Ice Age.
