Henry III reigned for 56 years from 1216 to 1272 - for a medieval king this was a huge amount of time, his was another Plantagenet reign that was considered by many to have been somewhat eventful to say the least. One of the main events was the waging of a civil war - known as the Second Barons’ War - against many of the English Baron’s that insisted that the king was to be made accountable to he peers and not God alone. One outcome of his reign was the establishment of Parliament as the cornerstone of English governance and the forum for deliberations on all political issues of the day.
